After eight years of ballet, I discovered my local Muay Thai club in France and started MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), Judo and rugby when I came to university. When talking about my experience in fighting to other people (especially girls) I would always get the same reaction: don’t you have to be really strong, aggressive and kind of like a guy to be able to fight?
Eleanor Trezise, UCLU Activities Network, conducted the first Sports Focus Activities Network meeting on October 24th 2014. This forum intended to discuss how UCLU Sports manage all clubs. Royal Parks availability, buses to Shenley, Wednesday afternoons being free, travel reclaims for non-BUCS leagues, women’s empowerment in sports and of course Varsity 2014 were all on the agenda.

UCL Sports and Development Coordinator, Katie Sykes, has confirmed that the biggest martial arts society of UCL 2013/14 is Muay Thai. The society had an impressive last year with its record-hitting 130+ members. However, the club is not resting after a busy first round and will be taking steps to fight for an even better year.

UCLU Activities and Events Officer, Doris Chen, has announced the seven sports which have won their bids to take part in UCL’s first multi-sport Varsity next March.
Out of the 12 sports which applied, only nine made the shortlist before the final seven were agreed. The Varsity 2014 line up is as follows:
